How to Find an RSS Feed URL

Find RSS and Atom feed links using a website’s subscribe options, HTML source, and practical feed URL patterns.

An RSS feed URL is the address of a machine-readable stream containing recent posts from a website. It often ends in /feed/, /rss.xml, /atom.xml or .rss, but each publisher can choose a different path. It is not the same URL as an article or homepage.

Method 1: Check the website for an RSS link

Look for an RSS icon, a Subscribe link or a Feeds page, often in the footer or navigation. Copy the feed address, not the address of an individual article. A working RSS or Atom feed commonly displays XML in the browser.

Method 2: Find the feed in page source

  1. Open the publisher homepage in a desktop browser.
  2. View the page source (usually Ctrl+U).
  3. Search for application/rss+xml or application/atom+xml.
  4. Find the href on the corresponding <link rel="alternate"> tag. Resolve any relative path against the site's domain.
  5. Open the resulting URL to confirm it contains a feed.

Method 3: Try common RSS feed URL patterns

For sites that do not advertise a feed, these common patterns are useful checks, not guaranteed addresses:

https://example.com/feed/https://example.com/rsshttps://example.com/rss.xmlhttps://example.com/atom.xml

Some publishers do not offer public RSS, use a different feed system, or block access. Do not assume that every guessed address exists.

How to search RSS feeds by keyword

There are two different workflows. To search subscriptions, use an RSS reader's search or keyword filtering feature, if available. To find a feed about a keyword, some publishers expose topic feeds. For instance, arXiv offers topic-specific RSS streams, while other publishers may offer only their main feed.

Currently SpeakArray's public reader searches article titles, sources and category names within its recent stored items. It does not yet search the full text of linked websites or offer a permanent historical full-text index. Larger research exports and alerts are part of our planned direction.

Can I download articles from an RSS feed?

A feed commonly supplies metadata, dates, summaries and links. Whether full article text appears depends on the publisher. Exporting a list of article URLs is different from redistributing thousands of complete articles; reuse of publisher text may require permission.

RSS, Atom, and OPML: which should I choose?

RSS and Atom are formats for delivering updated entries. OPML stores a list of feed subscriptions. If your goal is to move several feeds into a new reader, download OPML. If your goal is to inspect or analyze feed URL lists in a spreadsheet, CSV may be more convenient.
